Team Monocle are busy completing their sessions, sometimes twice each day, fitting them in before and after work, and during lunch breaks.

On average the team experiences a mood boost of 39% 2 hours following a training session.

Given that training can be difficult, and everyone has off days, it really does speak to the innate value of exercise as a mood booster that the team has so far reported positive effects in mood 92% of the time.

We asked the team, what’s your own personal tip to feel better after a hard day?

Adelaine:

"’Sports and connection’ - Play a game of sports; whether it's basketball or netball, then treat myself and my partner to a beautifully home cooked meal connecting through conversation.”

Damien:

“Do something you enjoy, which can change your focus and help you unwind. If your job entails being stationary for most of the day, I would suggest doing something which involves moving your body.”

Lesley:

“It depends on the day! I recommend either smashing out the excess energy in a cardio based group exercise class or finding the zen in a yoga class.

If none of that works there is always UberEats and a good TV sitcom!!”

A key part of resilience includes self-care, because life is not a sprint, but more like a long distance marathon. In sharing these self-care tips from seasoned exercisers, we hope to demonstrate that physical activity as a mood booster is most effective in the long run if you also give yourself permission to have a good time.
