A great deal of scientific literature has highlighted the relationship between regular moderate exercise on improving several quality of life outcomes, particularly mood elevation.

More recently exercise has been used in conjunction with traditional psychological approaches and medication to treat and manage a range of mental health conditions including clinical depression and anxiety.

The potential of a prescribed exercise regime as a non -pharmaceutical, non-invasive and lower cost alternative and/or combination to conventional treatments for mild to moderate anxiety and mood disorders remains enormous.

This also underscores the profound value of exercise as an overall mood booster for almost anybody, across a range of abilities, ages and backgrounds, with few side-effects and contraindications.

Monocle Data is proud to be working with a group of keen marathon enthusiasts to track, monitor and systematically illustrate the impact of their workouts on their individual mood regulation, while they prepare for the Blackmore Sydney Running Festival.

This will illustrate, using data, the virtuous cycle of exercise as an intrinsic motivator that not only enables wellness of body but also that of the mind.

Watch this space to see how each team member is doing and also gain useful pragmatic and evidence based advise on how to best utilise exercise as a powerful coping tool in your everyday life.
